"Welcome to Hotel Pingjing - A hidden pearl in the city of Kaohsiung with the feeling of a speakeasy. Our vision is for every guest to feel a sense of calm the moment they step through the lobby doors."
This project was our first group project where every group were assigned a city in the world. Based on the location our mission was to design a hotel with a matching concept and feeling. The city my group got was Kaohsiung in Taiwan and we chose to make the hotel intimate.
A hidden gem in the city buzz.
Timeline of this project was 3 weeks.
3D is built in 3Ds Max, rendered with Corona.
Postproduction done in Photoshop.
"Restaurant Imperial Lanterns is a crown jewel situated on the top floor of our hotel. Guests are treated to breathtaking views of Kaohsiung through large windows that amplify the sense of openness and connection to the city. Here they can enjoy an exquisite five-course Taiwanese fine dining menu paired with exceptional cocktails crafted by our skilled bartenders."
Here is a breakdown of the workflow in 3D finishing off with the final result after a touch of Photoshop.
The restaurant was originally intended to be much smaller than it eventually became. We initially envisioned it as a small space exclusively for the hotel guests, but the concept evolved into an exclusive restaurant open to the public, with booking priority given to the hotel guests.

My mission was to create the restaurant. I started the process by researching Taiwanese culture and restaurants to learn how to bring this restaurant to life. With the concept of the hotel and moodboard in place we knew that the restaurant would be located on the top floor of the hotel, making it possible to open up for large windows and a lovely view of the city.
The interior features dark and earthy materials consistent with the rest of the hotel, such as concrete, reclaimed rusted panels, wooden accents, and plants that breathes life into the space. The ceiling is adorned with sleek slats, and the lighting—dominated by traditional yet modern rice paper lanterns which creates a warm, inviting glow, embodying the name of the restaurant.
We chose to make our moodboard in 3D.
This helped us visualize how the different parts of the hotel would be linked together, maintaining consistency through it all. A suite, a restaurant and the lobby.
This was a view I ultimately chose not to use in the final presentation, which is why it doesn’t have a finished render. However, it was a perspective I considered for a long time, so I thought it deserved a spot here as well. It also helps illustrate some of the changes that took place throughout the development process.
